Mrs. Y’s third-graders made these musical masterpieces with tempera paint, oil pastel, and sheet music. They closely observed photos of banjos, guitars, and balalaikas, and then drew their instrument of choice. They painted their instruments with either warm or cool colors, and make their background the opposite in order to create contrast. Last but not least, they glued bits of the balalaika song they’re learning in music class into the background.
