Scientific Drawings

Fifth graders learned how to draw like scientists: up-close, with extreme attention to detail, and with less emphasis on making an artistic version of what they see.  They learned that scientific drawings are means to capture the object in front of them exactly as they see it – if it has a bite mark in the leaf, or a broken wing, they drew it. The first did drawings of a geranium, and then real bugs up close.
