BHS Chorus Officer Responsibilities
Chorus officers represent BHS Choirs and help the program run smoothly through a variety of roles. Applicants must be fully committed to the Brunswick High School Choir program. Before applying, make sure you have the necessary time in your schedule to fulfill these duties to the very best of your ability. Choir service can be used for volunteer work hours, along with college and scholarship applications.
All Officers: Spokesperson for the BHS choral program. Assist in developing positive class attitude. Plan/Implement chorus events. Attend ALL chorus activities! Support the program as a whole.
Student Directors: One or two positions per ensemble. Appointed by Mrs. Albert. The Student Directors should be ready to take over the responsibilities of the choral director at any time. This position is generally reserved for students pursuing a career in music education. Excellent vocal/solfege skills and basic piano skills are required. Student directors must know all of their ensemble’s music and possess strong leadership skills. They should be prepared to begin warm-ups, lead sectionals, or run rehearsals. These students will direct the ensembles in my absence. (May also be a section leader)
President: One position. The President is the most visible of all officers and must be a positive role model for all students in the program. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: ➢ Assists/advises choir director
➢ Presides and organizes monthly officer meetings
➢ Leads other officers in their duties
➢ Represents the concerns and needs of fellow choir members as an open and responsive leader
➢ Helps to plan and organize chorus events and fundraisers
➢ Keeps choir members informed about upcoming events
Vice President: One position. The Vice-President is first in line to assist the President and must be a positive role model as well. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
➢ Serve in the absence of the President
➢ Assist the President and choir director as needed
➢ Take minutes at officer meetings and post them
➢ Helps to plan and organize chorus events and fundraisers
Ensemble Managers One position per ensemble. The Ensemble Managers are responsible for aiding the choir director with organization and management of the groups. Managers should have strong leadership qualities, excellent rehearsal etiquette, and must be extremely organized! Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
➢ Daily rehearsal attendance and attendance at all events and performances
➢ Rehearsal set-up and clean-up
➢ Creation and organization of seating charts and standing order
➢ Organization and distribution of folders and music
Publicity Managers: One position per ensemble. Members of the Publicity Committee are responsible for dispersing information and spreading the word for all BHS Chorus events! Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
➢ Outreach for all performances and concerts
➢ Taking pictures (or coordinating pictures/documentation) at all chorus events
➢ Social media news blasts and reminders
➢ Recruitment initiatives
➢ Create and distribute special event information
Wardrobe Coordinator: One position. The Wardrobe Coordinator works with the choir director to distribute and organize performance attire. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
➢ Inform ensembles of wardrobe requirements for all performances
➢ Distribute and catalog all performance attire (clothes, bowties, jewelry, etc.)
➢ Help to order/design performance attire and spirit wear when needed
Librarian: One position. The Librarian will oversee all aspects of choral library. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
➢ Number, file, and stamp all sheet music
➢ Maintains and organize the choral library (May require time before/after-school, especially at the start and end of each concert season)
*The librarian does not need to attend monthly officer meetings
Social Chair: One position per ensemble. Members of the social committee will help to maintain a positive and healthy environment within each of the groups through social activities and every day interactions. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
➢ Organize recognition of birthdays/other events
➢ Plan/organize social events and outings
➢ Help with recruitment initiatives
➢ Organize chorus banquet in spring!
Stage Manager: One position. The Stage Manager is responsible for equipment/logistics for all BHS Chorus performances and concerts. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
➢ Oversee auditorium set-up and tear down prior to dress rehearsals and concerts, ensuring it is ready for choirs and audience. This includes risers, sound shells, piano, recording equipment, etc.
➢ Coordinates stage crew volunteers
*The stage manager does not need to attend monthly officer meetings
Section Leaders: One position per section. Appointed by Mrs. Albert. Section leaders must be strong musicians who are capable of learning and teaching their part on any given piece. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
➢ Know ALL of the music for their section
➢ Make sure their respective section is focused during rehearsal
➢ Answer questions from other members of section about their part
➢ Fill in students who were absent on what was learned
➢ Make sure each section member has a folder, pencil, copy of the music
➢ Make sure members of section are not on their phones during rehearsal!!!!!!!!!
➢ Stand out from the rest of the section, vocally and musically (some keyboard skills)
➢ Report names of members who consistently behave irresponsibly to the Director
➢ Record sectional logs if needed
➢ Plan and lead sectionals outside of class time if needed
*Section leaders do not need to attend monthly officer meetings

APPLICATIONS ARE DUE OCTOBER 2ND BY 2:00 PM
Only those students who complete the application will be added to the ballot. Elections will take place in class on Wednesday, October 4th & Thursday, October 5th!
