Weekly Update – 10/17/17

Good morning all,

I hope this email finds you all well and enjoying this BEAUTIFUL stretch of weather!

I wanted to start by saying a huge “Thank you!” to everyone who was at the game last Friday. We had a fairly good turnout and I am proud of all of our students for their effort. Special thanks to the parents of the JV boys soccer team for getting their sons back to play for the last half of the game. That was appreciated more than you know. With so many of our students involved in athletics, it makes a difference when effort like that is shown to help make the group successful.  Thank you for your willingness to play “taxi” and shuttle them from Lewiston. The band and I appreciate it very much!

Congratulations go out to several students as the first round of audition results have come in!

First, Congratulations to the following for their acceptance into the Maine Music Educators All State Jazz Festival:

Kyra Teboe – Combo (with the top score in the state!!!!)

Sophie Blair – Combo (again, with the top score in the state!!!!)

Katie Bojarski – Honors band

Niles Dorn – Honors Band (the second highest score in the state)

Chappy Hall – Jazz Band

This is a tremendous accomplishment. I am SO PROUD of everyone who auditioned. Every one of them gave a well-prepared and mature audition. As I tell them, it is very subjective and sometimes it comes down to factors totally outside of their control. All our students put forth a tremendous effort and I am so proud.

This festival takes place January 11 – 13th at South Portland High School

Congratulations go out to the following who were selected to the All New England Honors Band. This is a nomination festival held at Plymouth State University on November 19th and 20th. They will join over 200 other musicians from across New England. These students were selected from a pool of several hundred applicants.

Josie Adolf – Bass Clarinet

Greta Anesko – Bass

Sophie Blair – Percussion

Katie Bojarski – Euphonium

Grace Casey – Bari Sax

Nolan Deck – Tuba

Alyssa Demanche – Horn

Niles Dorn – Tenor Sax

Darien Gillespie – Oboe

Attire Concerns

Apparently, Formal fashions is charging an exorbitant amount of money for shipping. If you are not comfortable with the cost, please send your order to me with a check stapled to it (made payable to BHS Music) and I will place the order. Please add a few dollars to help offset the cost of shipping.

Weekly Update – 9/19/17

Good afternoon all,

I hope this email finds you well! Welcome to the first weekly update of the year. Hopefully you find the information contained here useful.

I wanted to start by saying, “Thank you”! Thank you all so much for having your son/daughter involved in the music program and supporting all that they do. I truly believe that four years of participation in the instrumental music program helps promote good citizenship, well-rounded students, and, most importantly, quality human beings.  This program is very much about love, care, and support of one another.

Calendar Updates:

Tonight – Tuesday 9/19/17

Thursday – 9/21/17

  • 7:00 a.m – Morning Band – PLEASE, if your son or daughter drives to school, remind them not to park in the teacher parking lot. There have been several complaints from Faculty about this. I would like to make sure we don’t cause any issues for the teachers.
  • 5:30 p.m – Thursday Jazz Trumpet Sectional
  • 5:30 p.m – Jazz Combo rehearsal
  • 6:00 p.m – Thursday Jazz – Band room

Friday – 9/22/17

  • 6:00 p.m – Football Game – Students should be prepared to leave the band room at this time. Jackets will be available and will need to be returned. Please keep your eyes on the forecast for temperature issues that night. It looks to be a mild Friday and a good night for some football!
