BHS SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION PROCESS

Most scholarship applications require an official high school transcript and a teacher and/or counselor letter of recommendation.  For transcripts to be considered “Official” they must be received directly from the school in a sealed envelope.  Since most scholarships require this along with the scholarship application it makes most sense to mail it all together as a complete package.  Therefore, all scholarship applications should be mailed directly through the Counseling Office.  This will also cut down on the overuse of paper and envelopes. Please use the procedures below when applying for scholarships:

  • Obtain and complete the scholarship application.  This includes all the supporting documentation that is requested; such as an essay, resume and/or list of accomplishments or extra-curricular activities, etc.
  • Request any required Letters of Recommendations from Teachers/Counselors.  Your teachers/counselors will deliver this letter directly to the Counseling Office.  Be sure to allow the teacher/counselor ample time prior to the deadline date (preferably 2-3 weeks) to complete this letter.  Remember that you are most likely not the only student requesting a letter.
  • Complete an appropriate sized envelope and affix the appropriate postage – PLEASE LEAVE THE RETURN ADDRESS AREA BLANK.
  • Bring this completed packet to Mrs. Cota in the Counseling Office – preferably 2 – 3 weeks prior to the deadline date.  This packet should include the scholarship application, essay (if required) and all other supporting documentation EXCEPTthe Official Transcript and required Teacher or Counselor Recommendation Letters.
  • Your application will be processed and mailed out accordingly.  A notification will be sent to your home address or email address to verify the date the application was sent.  Please give Mrs. Cota an email address so notifications can be sent to you via email. If you have any questions regarding the scholarship application process simply contact our office at 319-1912 and we will be happy to assist you.

SCHOLARSHIPS RECEIVED IN GUIDANCE OFFICE

The Counseling Office receives many scholarships throughout the year.  We maintain a Master List in the Counseling Office and students are encouraged to review this list regularly.  Students (and parents) can pick up scholarship applications in the Counseling Office – we always have multiple copies available.  If an application is available on-line or by mail, it is noted in the description and on the Master List.  Each scholarship listed gives the application deadline and eligibility required to apply.  Please follow the Scholarship Application Procedures as listed at the top of this page.
