The Road Writing Response (pgs. 1-75)

For forty minutes write about your response to the novel The Road so far.  Your discussion can be about any aspect of the story, favorable or not.  Included are various passages from pages 1-75 that may help you to recall an impression that you have formulated.  Again, you do not have to write about these events.

Passage #1.
A diesel truck pulls up with a band of men standing in the steakbed, some of them holding rifles.

Passage #2.  I should have done it a long time ago.  When there were
three bullets in the gun instead of two….I’ve taken a new lover.

Passage #3.  The boy kept pulling at his coat.  Papa?  He whispered.
What is wrong with the man?  Can’t we help him?  Papa?
      No.  We can’t help him.

Passage #4.  …A picture of his wife.  He spread everything out on the blacktop.  Like gambling cards.  He pitched the sweatblakened piece of leather into the woods and sat
holding the photograph.

Passage #5.  And nothing bad is going to happen to us.
That’s right                                                                                                                                                Because we’re carrying the fire.                                                                                                          Yes.  Because we’re carrying the fire.
