Systemic Discrimination Essay

Systemic discrimination happens on the basis of race, sex, ethnicity, sexual preferences or orientation, ability and physical shape. It is perpetuated by an organization (or many) through obvious or hidden policies, decision-making, practices, and education. It is embedded within society and the structures that govern daily life.

Based on our review of rhetoric you are to compose a composition that expresses a sincere and meaningful observation about the problem of systemic discrimination in the United States of America.  Take into consideration the speaker (author), the occasion, the audience, the purpose, and your intended tone about your subject.

Your essay should pursue the following theme expressed by the language of the constitution:  “The United States of America while expressing freedom to all people has failed in its responsibility to ensure rights for all people and the resulting systemic discrimination continues to be a source of great suffering.”  How has the the book that you selected featured systemic discrimination as a relevant theme?  How has the government of the United States of America contributed to the ordeal experienced by the content of your assigned book?  Based on your reading, as well as class discussions and your own awareness, discuss these points in your essay/writing piece.  The book itself may provide you with rich supportive material, but it does not have to be featured in your essay.

Use evidence from your book along with any other published sources to strengthen your discussion.  Your essay must display MLA parenthetical citation along with a works cited page.  If you choose to write an alternative composition you must indicate the resources that you used in order to formulate your rhetorical perspective.
