Reflect on all that you have read, viewed, and learned about systemic discrimination.  Address the prompt featured at the end of this page, using three examples from the content of your systemic discrimination book in English class this semester.  After forty minutes submit your written response whether completed or not to Turnitin

The preamble to the constitution of the United States of America is an introduction to the highest law of the land.  Its purpose is to Establish Justice–the first of five objectives outlined in the 52-word paragraph that the Framers drafted in Philadelphia in the summer of 1787. They found a way to agree on the following basic principles:

“We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

liberty- the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one’s way of life, behavior, or political views
tranquility- the quality or state of being kind; free from turmoil
posterity- all future generations of people

Debates arose regarding the implicit nature of the constitution versus the specific language of the document.  This conflict resulted in the establishment of the fourteenth amendment declaring:  

Section 1.

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
