You are to make a short film centering on the theme of Fear.
Your presentation should include:
1. A review of the novel that you selected to read.
2. Your own interpretation about what fear represents to you.
3. A testimony to what you fear the most.
4. Reconsider Aristotle’s definition of tragedy when he states that of the two most important elements of drama: plot and character. Plot is the most important. In your novel is it plot, character, or thought that is most terrifying? Justify your response.
5. Include a clip (5-10 minutes) of the most terrifying fictional movie that you can locate. Remember that the scene can not exploit nudity or carnal behavior.
6. This film presentation should be captivating/entertaining
How you might organize your Presentation:
Hook: Grab Attention
- Start with a visceral experience:
- Play 10 seconds of eerie music/sounds.
- Show a chilling image or short film clip (e.g., from The Shining or Stranger Things).
- Ask a provocative question: “What’s the difference between fear and terror?”
Define Fear (Literary & Scientific Lens)
- Literary definition: Fear as a narrative tool (suspense, horror, dystopia).
- Scientific angle: The brain’s amygdala response (show a short TED-Ed clip or diagram).
- Quote to include:
“Fear is the oldest and strongest emotion of mankind.” —H.P. Lovecraft
