Prologue–Nature’s Wisdom

“I assign myself no rank or any limit, and such an attitude is very much against the trend of the times. But my world has become one of infinite possibilities.”—Ralph Ellison, Invisible Man

Beneath its intimate scope the starlit heaven subdues you in hopeless contemplation. Lured by the pulse of wonder we look to the heavens for understanding.  The first star in the advancing dusk appears.  Attempting to calculate our existence, more stars appear, and then, seemingly in a timeless twinkle, the darkened sky is graced with infinite distant lights–time’s most stunning spectacle.  Those countless stars shine before us like ancient monuments boasting of untold glory.  They are a paradox, familiar yet foreign, ridiculing our attempt to explain their origin.  Distracted, we turn our attention away from these celestial spirits while they remain watching over us.  Daylight attempts to deny their existence, yet they are there.  They are always there.
