Course of Study

In sixth grade students study Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Mesoamerica (Aztec, Inca, and Maya civilizations). This year we are going to study these societies thematically by looking at and comparing their geography, religion, achievements, political system, economics and social structure: we use the acronym GRAPES. We’ll also do an economics unit that will reinforce the concepts learned while study these ancient civilizations.

To demonstrate their mastery of GRAPES students will design their own civilization. After we complete each theme, students will create that aspect of their society. They will use their skills as historians, writers and artists to develop their new civilization.
