As part of our guidance curriculum, the counselors at BJHS provide lessons on personal safety. Since it is important for students to occasionally hear outside speakers, BJHS has invited Caty Larry from Sexual Assault Support Services of Midcoast Maine (SASSMM) to reinforce this topic. On February 4th and 5th, she will be providing lessons to Bailey Island sixth grade classes during Social Studies and Science that address sexual assault and internet safety. These may be sensitive topics for some so we want you to be aware. If you have any questions or you feel your child may need extra support, please feel free to contact me at any time.
Monday, November 17th was the kickoff for the Mean Stinks Celebration here at BJHS. Every student and staff member was encouraged to sign the pledge in homeroom. The pledge reads: “Mean Stinks! That’s why we are uniting to stomp out mean forever. By placing our signature on this agreement to gang up for good, and painting our pinkies blue or wearing the mean stinks tattoo, we agree to make a pact, a simple vow to swear off bullying and have each other’s backs when mean tries to show its stinkin’ face.”
One Monday a month throughout the year we will revisit this pledge by painting our pinkies blue or wearing the mean stinks tattoo. Blue flowers placed around the school serve as daily a reminder to gang up for good this year.
Please join us for an Internet Safety Night for parents at BJHS on Thursday, November 13th. Please RSVP to Alanna Roy at 319-1932 or email@example.com by Friday November 7th. Click here for more details.
