A job shadow is an experience during which students will visit a business/organization and observe daily operations. The goal of a job shadow is to provide a student with a short experience which will deepen their understanding of a particular career. A job shadow is intended for students who want to investigate a STEM field as a first step in potentially establishing a longer-term professional experience. In terms of activity during the shadow, the job shadow site can have a student observe for the duration of the shadow, organize learning activities, or have a student complete job tasks.
BHS students pursuing a STEM endorsement on their diplomas and transcripts will be required to job shadow a professional in a STEM field of their choosing during their junior year. The expectation is that students will choose a field related closely to their own personal interests. Locations for job shadowing should be in or around the Brunswick community and the main vocation of employees in this location should be centered around a math, science, technology, or engineering field. Students will spend at least 6 hours at this place of employment researching, communicating with, and learning about the details of what professional work in this field entails. All locations must be pre-approved by BHS. The requirements for satisfactory completion of the job shadow experience are as follows:
1) Submit Proposal to STEM advisor.

3) Complete Hold-Harmless/Release Form and return to STEM advisor.
