Morning Message – Monday, January 7 (DRAFT)

Good Morning Coffin Community,

This is Mr. Ciembroniewicz and I’d like to start this morning
by wishing each and every one of you a Happy New Year!  I’m so glad that we’re kicking off 2013 together.

This weekend I tried to fix a light on my new (but, very
old) boat and also had a chance to re-read a book entitled Mindset by the author Carol Dweck. I think it’s fun to sometimes
re-read books we enjoy and learn from, don’t you?

Mindset is one of
those books that helps me continue to learn.
I was reminded how important it is to face challenges in a positive way
and to be patient with ourselves as we try new things and learn.

Back to the boat light.
I’m one of those people who likes to figure things out quickly and get
them right.  This usually isn’t the way
meaningful learning happens, nor should it be.
After a few minutes of tinkering with no success, but growing
frustration, I realized that I needed to slow down and face this challenge in a
positive and productive way.  I did some
research, I spoke with some expert friends and I learned from my mistakes.  You know what?  The light now works and I feel great!

I hope that 2013 brings you an opportunity to learn many new
things  – giving yourself permission to
make mistakes along the way and to slowly and  persistently learn from
them.  Let’s promise to do this together.
I can imagine light bulbs of learning
happening for all of us, all year long.

As always, it makes me proud to see all the joy and
enthusiasm that each of you bring to Coffin Elementary School.  As Baxter Bear would say, be kind, be gentle,
be safe – and, do good work.

Have a great week.
