Varsity Coach Hugh Dwyer

“Scholastic sports provide us with an opportunity to assist in the effort to eliminate long-standing social injustices.”           Coach Hugh Dwyer

Coach Dwyer has been the varsity softball coach at Brunswick High School since 2012.  Coach Dwyer has taught English at Brunswick High School since 1985.  He has also served as the girls’ junior varsity basketball coach since 2003.  Prior to coaching girls’ sports, Mr. Dwyer coached baseball at various levels throughout the Brunswick community including the boys’ junior varsity and freshmen teams, the junior high school team and the senior Babe Ruth team.  A former President of the Brunswick Cal Ripken program, Coach Dwyer also served as the Director of the Brunswick Parks and Recreation Department’s junior baseball program for six years along with serving as the recreation department’s director of youth basketball for seven years.

Coach Dwyer believes that a strong work ethic and a willingness to put the team first are the cornerstones for developing a successful program.  Coach Dwyer states, “I view my role as the high school coach as a resource for any parent who is interested in enriching their daughter’s experience in softball.  Our players and I are always thrilled to offer our experience and guidance to any girl interested in softball.  Scholastic sports are an integral component in our effort to promote equality and opportunities for student athletes.  The sport of fast-pitch softball, in particular, is a unique sport whose national exposure in recent years provides girls with a model of exposure that begins to rival the opportunities offered to their male counterparts.”
