Officer Biographies for 2019-2020

President: Emily Swan

Emily is involved in many extracurricular activities, including rowing for Merrymeeting Community Rowing Association, being a member of Maine Youth Court and Students Demand Action Club, and working for Paul’s Marina. Two of her major academic achievements while at BHS are becoming a member of French Honor Society and being listed in the High Honor Roll. Emily’s interests include studying foreign relations, rowing, and writing, and her future educational plans include going to college, studying abroad at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and possibly attending law school.

Vice President: Sara Scrapchansky

Sara is involved in several extracurricular activities, including field hockey, tennis, math team, coordinating the school blood drive, and working as a tennis instructor. Her major achievements include being a member of French Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society, and being listed to the 2nd Team All-Conference Tennis Team and High Honor Roll. Sara’s hobbies include tennis, reading, running, and skiing. She plans to go to college to get a degree in engineering, before attending medical school.

Treasurer: Gabri Sparks

Gabri is involved in a multitude of extracurricular activities, including serving as President of the Morning Announcements, Vice President of Junior Young Historians, Social Chair of Treble Choir, singing in Treble Choir and Concert Choir, as well as participating in two Community Shakespearean Theatre productions, Macbeth and 12th Night. Her major achievements include being listed to Honor Roll, completing 116 hours of community service, and receiving the St. Thomas University Book Award. Garbri’s hobbies consist of reading, writing, acting, swimming, playing board and video games, and watching “Doctor Who”, “Supernatural”, and “Sherlock”. In the future, Gabri plans on spending three years at St. Thomas University, majoring in criminal justice and law while minoring in gender studies, theatre, and english. She plans on spending her fourth year in the U.K., before applying to law school where she then hopes to practice criminal, entertainment, or muiromental law.

Secretary: Lila Solberg

Lila is very involved within BHS and the community as a player on the girls varsity soccer and varsity lacrosse teams, a unified basketball partner, Vice President of Student Government and Interact club, a member of Action Team, and employee of Pat’s Pizza Brunswick. Her major achievements include being listed to Community Service High Honor Roll and High Honor Roll, receiving the College of the Atlantic Book Award, being a member of Spanish National Honor Society, being elected Girls Varsity Soccer Captain, and accumulating 329 hours of community service over her high school career. Lila’s interests include snow and water skiing, the beach, traveling, surfing, and eating sushi from Little Tokyo. In the future, she plans on attending college majoring in an international relations related major, before joining the Peace Corps and eventually going to law school.

Public Relations Coordinator: Lauren Whitlock

Lauren, a very involved student a BHS, is the captain of the volleyball team, a member of speech and debate, students demand action, student government, interact club, and the coastal youth orchestra. Her major achievements include receiving the STEM Grit Award, Williams Book Award, speech and debate award, being a member of French Honor Society, Tri-M Music Society, National Honor Society, and serving as the Vice President of the interact club. Lauren’s interests include playing the violin, reading, and being with friends and family. After high school she plans on attending a four- year college.

Publicist: Jenna Roane

Jenna is involved in various ways, including playing Girls Varsity Soccer and Unified Basketball, rowing for Merrymeeting Community Rowing Association, serving as Social Media Coordinator of the Interact Club and Class of 2020 Treasurer, and being a member of Student Government, Action Team, and Outing Club. Her major achievements include being listed to Maine Commission of Community Service and BHS High Honor Roll, receiving the Underclassmen Community Service Award, being a member of Spanish National Honor Society, and completing over 500 hours of community service over her high school career. Jenna’s interests are peanut butter, the beach, rowing, and taking naps. In the future, she plans on attending college majoring in an area of interest.

Historian: Caitlin Kelly

Caitlin participates in many extracurricular activities, including running cross-country and track, playing tennis, being a member of morning band, jazz band, and speech and debate. Her major accomplishments are winning KVAC’s for girls cross country, and winning the Dartmouth College and University of Rochester Book Awards. Caitlin’s interests include playing the bass, writing, singing, and reading. In the future, she plans on attending college, and, later, medical school.

NHS Convention Coordinator: Isabella Banks

Isabella is involved in several ways, including playing girls varsity soccer, unified basketball, and indoor track, competing on the math team, and working at Desrosiers. Her major accomplishments include being elected Class of 2020 President, named girls varsity soccer captain, a member of Spanish National Honor Society, and being listed to the High Honor Roll. Isabella’s interests are soccer, traveling, surfing, and eating breakfast food. In the future, she plans on majoring in behavioral biology with a specialty in abnormal psychology in teens and adults, and plans to minor in Spanish and Arabic.
