STAR Assessment

STAR assessments provide the most valid, reliable data in the least amount of testing time—usually 20-25  minutes or less, whereas the NWEA is longer and can only be administered 2-3 times yearly. The STAR  provides the PST with a diagnostic report and suggestions to focus on what matters most—individualizing instruction to accelerate learning for “at risk” students. An action plan for each student is developed based on the results of the STAR assessment and teacher input.
  • STAR Assessments can be administered weekly, monthly, quarterly or as often as the PST feels necessary.
  • RTI teacher can analyze data and use it to guide instructional planning.
  • The STAR provides instructional resources to address deficit skills identified within the domains.
  • Once the student has completed the assessment, the team can then determine what skills need attention. The diagnostic report provides: percentile scores, grade equivalent and scaled scores.
  • A ninth grade student should have a scaled score between 1008 and 1016.
  • A tenth grade student should have a scaled score of 1094-1101.
  • The highest scaled score is 1400=beyond high school.

In addition to the above results; the RTI interventionist can target specific domains/skills and use the provided resources to remediate the areas in need of instruction. .

Reading Domains include: Literature and Informational Text.

Key Ideas and Details(Comprehension and Analysis of Text)

Craft and Structure(Grammar, Language and Literary devices)

Integration of Knowledge and Ideas(synthesizing and Higher Order Thinking skills)

Vocabulary acquisition is for both Literature and Informational Text.  The Domain subskills target the students placement at the scaled score and align with the CCSS.
