Happy May Day, friends! I’m ready for those May flowers to come out in full force! I hope you have stayed busy and healthy at home. Starting Monday the 4th of May, Diversified Arts and Second Step will be doing a 9:00-9:20am specials drop in on Google Meet. Drop by and say hello! Over these many weeks at home there have been so many musicians and educators that have put resources online. I will post a few at the end of this entry. We’ve sung many of these songs in music class. I really miss you all. Take care.

Morning! I hope you enjoyed the Coffin School Song on the Friday morning announcements this morning. I also hope you are all feeling well and enjoying time with someone you love. We are all healthy at Mrs. Murphy’s house. We are working through the challenges of distance learning, distance teaching, and keeping things running smoothly. I want to remind you that if you have any questions, concerns, pictures or video please feel free to email them to me at dmurphy@brunswick.k12.me.us . I hope you’ve been singing songs you’ve learned this year for your family. I will be adding some more songs to the list on this page. I still miss you all and hope we can get back to school soon.

I’m still enjoying those emails, videos, and pictures of friends singing, moving, and coloring to music! Keep the coming. I’m trying to post two videos tonight. One of the Coffin School Song so that you can sing it and remember your friends at Coffin School. The second video is just a little video of the Itsy Bitsy Spider that you can sing and move to. Don’t mind my children popping in and out. Hope you’re well. I really miss you all. Check back soon…I’m hoping to put up more videos. Bye, friends!

Today was the first day I received email and pictures from students. I was SO excited to hear from them! They have been working on their class work and their specials and having fun. Keep them coming. I hope you are all staying healthy and teaching your families about our days at Coffin School. I am learning how to put more things on this website, so check back every now and then! Today was also the first day I started helping my little girl, Maisie, with her school work. We did morning meeting, math, reading, indoor recess(it’s raining), snack, music, lunch, yoga, choice time(she chose computer lab), and now it’s rest time at Mrs. Murphy’s house. Wow! I’m going to go put the State of Maine Song on our song list. See you later alligator.

On May 29th 2019 Coffin School hosted the Maine Marimba Ensemble for the day. The first grade classes participated in a 20 minute workshop with Jacob Wolff of the ensemble. They learned about building marimbas, the music that the marimbas play, and about the marimba’s connection to Zimbabwe. The students saw and played much larger versions of the instruments we use in the classroom throughout the year. The day closed out with a performance for the whole school by the entire Maine Marimba Ensemble. This amazing opportunity was made possible by a grant from the Brunswick Community Education Foundation(BCEF).
Please visit their website to support special projects in Brunswick schools. And thank you very much to BCEF for helping to bring such an amazing group to Coffin School!

Our annual concert on March 26th has been canceled due to health concerns.

Portland Symphony Orchestra Kinderkonzerts:
First grade and multi-age classes will attend four Portland Symphony Orchestra Kinderkonzerts at Crooker Theater in Brunswick during the 2019-2020 school year. To prepare for each concert, we will learn about instruments in the families we will see and hear.
We will attend the percussion kinderkonzert on May 13th.

For more on the Kinderkonzerts and other programs for kids with the Portland Symphony Orchestra visit: http://www.portlandsymphony.org

A HUGE thank you to all the Coffin School families who send in extra money for other students to attend the Kinderkonzerts!

If you would like to contribute extra this year, please send your contribution in with your student’s permission slip. Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity!

We would also like to thank the Community For Coffin for contributing the remainder of the cost for 2016-2017!

Thanks to all of you, every student will got a chance to experience live professional performances throughout the school year. What an amazing opportunity for our children! As always, thank you for your support of Coffin School Music.
