Thank you for visiting and welcome to the B. J. H. S. Garden of Eatin’ website!
Our garden began to take shape during the 2011-2012 school year. With the visionary guidance of Sharon Kloss, a math teacher and math strategist, it has been an amazing journey! Dedicated students on our “Go Green Team,” teachers on our Wellness Committee, supportive staff and a number of committed parent volunteers all helped to make this vision a reality. We were also very grateful to have had donations of loam, compost, seed starting materials, and mulch from local business and organizations and to have received grants written by staff to help fund the endeavor.
We are amazed at the results! Our very first harvest in the summer and fall of 2012 was a smashing success! We donated extra produce to the Midcoast Hunger Prevention Program, the Tedford Shelter and a local assisted living community. In the fall we used some of the harvest in our Healthy Snack Cart, in Health Classes and we were able to add to the offerings for our school lunches. We also held our First Annual Harvest Night and a number of students helped put the garden to bed during our first Activity Day in October.
Here are some of the vegetables, fruits and herbs we are planting for the 2012-2013 season.

Check out the various links on our website and view the photos for the “makeover’ of our front portico area. It has definitely given B. J.H. S. a facelift, improved our sustainability quotient… and there is more to come!
Our seeds are being planted in mid-March, and should be ready for sale by mid-April. See the B.J.H.S, newsletter for updates, and we will post a note on this site!
