Weekly Home Reading

Weekly Home

A strategy to strengthen and communicate reading habits.

Expectations:

  • To read at least 90 minutes every week.  Amount of minutes expected will increase every trimester.
  • Fill-out the Weekly Home Reading sheet sent home on Monday.
  • Due on Friday.
  • Divide up the minutes throughout the week in a way that makes sense for after-school schedules and family time.
  • Every day does not have to be filled out to meet the expectations as long as the 90 minute minimum is met by Friday.
  • There are 3 types of reading that can be done:  Read to self, Read to someone, Read Aloud (audio or person).  Throughout the week a combination of these reading ways can be done or the same one.
  • There is a chart of expectations on the back of every WHR sheet that is used for assessing the outcome of the recording and reflecting work.
  • Reflects will change weekly with the expectation that at least 1 is completed.
  • Weekly minutes of reading are accumulated for trimester calculating of the class average and graphing individual outcomes to assess and set goals for habits of reading.
