Architecture of Longfellow School

Longfellow Architecture

When you look at Longfellow School, you see a beautiful piece of art. It has beautiful architecture like: a lot of dentils, fanlights, bay window, and a keystone. Longfellow Lions 1, 2, 3 took a walk around the school to see the architecture. We also saw a kind of architecture called the Roman arch. On the two front doors of the building there are globes over the doors. The builders put the bricks different ways on the building so it looked more classy! The builders built a flat roof, but then they built an extra layer because they wanted it higher. The kind of architecture I saw the most was dentils! On each door of the back of the school there was a fanlight! All I have to say is” I think Longfellow School has great, beautiful architecture!

Longfellow School is a perfect example of a beautiful well-built piece of art with its beautiful white dentils and its Roman arches. A keystone is right on top of the entry ways. Every speck of that old brick is beautiful. It is an old building and many people would think of it as an old run down school but it is glorious brick school full of happiness. The sun that goes through the fanlight window is a beautiful peaceful settling light. I love the way Longfellow is built. Most modern buildings do not have the same architecture that old buildings have. So someday maybe you could stop by and look at the wonderful building!

Architecture

Longfellow School has some of the best architecture in Brunswick. It was built a long time ago. It has a beautiful bay window. Not many things have been changed. There is a cement walkway that stands out because most of our walkways are made out of tar. Some people don’t see the neat brickwork people did back then. Some people have gone to school for 4 years and they have not seen the fan windows. Longfellow Lions 1,2,3 did a walk around the school and they did not find the dentils until they were done. The dentils were right in the back where the kids came out of the building. Architecture you can find in a lot of places, not just at Longfellow School. There are many places in the world with architecture.

Longfellow Architecture

At Longfellow School we have some rare architecture.  They do not build schools like this anymore.  I saw two Roman arches at the back doors, I saw brackets, a bay window, fan windows, keystones, dentals and a cornice. I think the architecture at Longfellow School is neat!

Architecture at Longfellow School

Longfellow School is very interesting. Because it has very fancy things. It has lots of dentals. The dentals look like teeth. Longfellow School also has fanlight windows, Roman arches, and keystones above them. On the corners of the buildings are quoins. And the school has a big bay window with four or five windows. The school has lots of different designs. Some bricks are going across and up and down. It has a pattern big square, big rectangle, big square, big rectangle, and a lintel  over the regular window. They built Longfellow School. Then they wanted it a little bigger, so they made another ell. On the entrance door it has three continents: North America, South America, and Australia. There is another door but it is not an entrance door. It has another world on it with two continents. Both make up the whole Earth. If you want to go to Longfellow School you should look at the beautiful architecture!

Longfellow

Longfellow School is an old school. It is named after a famous poet who is Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Since the school was built they have continued to add on to it until now. On Friday April 27th, Miss Milne’s class, Mrs. Goodman’s class, and Mrs. Searles’s class walked around the building. We looked at special things that some kids have never seen before. When the group went on one side of the building, there was a square design. There were also some bricks that looked like rectangles instead of squares.

Building Longfellow School
By Christian

Longfellow School was built in the 1920s. It was made out of bricks. The front has a bay window. The third-grade rooms are in the first building. The back two Roman arches, three fanlights, two keystones, and a lot of dentals. As Brunswick got bigger, Longfellow School got bigger. Additions were added in 1943 and 1987. The back of the school used to be the front of the school. The front bay window is different from others. It is bigger than others. The land Longfellow School was build on was first owned by Joshua Chamberlain. Longfellow is one of four schools in Brunswick.

Longfellow is Art
By Jack

Longfellow School is a beautiful piece of art. It is an antique for a school. In other words it is one of a kind. In the early nineteen hundreds  (1924) only the third grade classrooms were standing.  Then in 1943 they made the fourth grade classrooms, and under them the second grade and kindergarten, and finally the gym. In 1987 they made the fifth and first grade wing. The new playground outside was built in the 1980s. I think Longfellow is a good example for a school because it shows what schools looked like eighty years ago.

I took a walk around Longfellow School. I saw all kinds of architecture. I saw a keystone above a door and a fanlight above a door. My favorite piece of architecture is our bay window. It is a semi circle and it goes out about twenty feet from our building. It has six windows around it and it is in our school garden. Why don’t you go outside and try to find some fancy architecture on your house.

Architecture of our School
By Mac

At Longfellow School we have some architecture that makes our school look fancy and beautiful. At the front of the building, there is a bay window. At the back of the school there are Roman arches, dentals, and at the corners there are quoins. Also around the school, there are brackets, keystones, and fanlights. Our bricks are made a special way because there are four layers of them, and in some parts they are made in other special designs. That is what makes our school beautiful.

Longfellow Architecture

I saw a lot of amazing things on Longfellow School.! I saw brackets on one of the doors. They look kind of like hooks.  Dentals are on the top part of the building. They look kind of like teeth! The keystone was above some of the doors.  It looked like a key. The Roman  Arch was over some windows. The fan light looked like a fold fan. It was right over some doors. There were posters at the edge of a part of our school. The kindergarten has a bay window. It looks like a crystal! A cornice is a thing that sticks out of the roof. See if your school has any of these parts!

Longfellow School Architecture

We walked around Longfellow School and looked for architecture. We found Roman arches and fan windows. And we found a keystone on top of the first door. We found a bay window in front of the school. We saw a hipped roof from Coles Tower at Bowdoin. We saw two Doric columns at the front of the school. We found out that Longfellow School has lots of architecture.
