Nick’s Exclusive Interview 2005

By Nolan Lauren K. and Ina

Hi my name is Nick the nerve and I’m here to tell you about the nervous system.  If somebody touches something hot their reflex sends a message to nerve to nerve until it gets to the spinal cord. The spinal cord sends the message back to the hand and at the same time the message travels up to the brain. The spinal cord send a message to your muscles to move your hand.  The brain lets you know you just touched something hot so we moved your hand.

Do you know what an involuntary action is?  Well it is when you don’t chose to do something, like when you blink, breath or even sneeze.

Now do you know what a voluntary action is?  It is just like an involuntary action, but you choose to do it, like picking up something, sitting down, or turning on the television.  Say I want to take out the trash.  First, I think about it in my brain.  The message travels from nerve to nerve to the spinal cord and to the hands to pick up the trash bag.  A message is also sent to the legs to walk to the trash can.

In the nervous system there are a lot of parts.  There is something called the Cerebrum.  The  Cerebrum is the largest part of your brain and is very wrinkly  It controls thought, voluntary movement, memory, and learning.  The Cerebellum is below the cerebrum and it controls muscles, balance, and posture.  Below the Cerebellum is he brain stem which controls breathing, heart beat and reflexes.

Do you know what the spinal cord does?  The spinal cord is a very important part of the nervous system. The spinal cord is a highway where messages are constantly traveling.  I am Nick the "Nerve" with "The Nervous System Report," from The Nervous News Network.
