1.  Topic Sentence
EXAMPLE:  The hunting hat shows Holden’s need to isolate himself from others.
2.  Opinion
EXAMPLE:  Holden’s hunting hat is unique and reflects his personality.
3.  Support with a passage from the story.
4.  Clarify how the selected passage relates to the expressed opinion.
EXAMPLE:  This passage shows how Holden’s hat is like a security blanket for when he feels frustrated or insecure.
REPEAT STEPS 2, 3 & 4 AT LEAST THREE TIMES IN A BODY PARAGRAPH
5.  Conclusive Statement-  a summary sentence that repeats the main point of the paragraph

CONCLUSION:

1.  Begin by repeating your thesis statement.
2.  Review your main points from each of the body paragraphs.
3.  Use a final passage from the story that serves to emphasize your most improtant observation.
4.  Conclude your essay with a thematic statement, the sentence that states the most important observation of your essay.
