Instrumental Music

  • The Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grade concert bands are graded classes that meet during the school day. Band will be on your schedule like the rest of your classes (math, social studies, etc…) You will have Band class every-other-day.
  • All students can participate in BOTH Band and Chorus! Like Band, Chorus is also a scheduled, graded class.
  • The Athletic and Music Departments work very hard to limit conflicts between sports and music at the Junior High. You can participate in both! (In fact, about 85% of the current Jr. High band students are or have been part of a school athletic team this year!)
  • There are many extra-curricular opportunities available for band students including several auditioned ensembles and District and State music events. All band students are eligible to audition for Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band. (Both of these ensembles meet in the morning before school starts.) We also offer other small ensembles depending on interest including Jazz Combo, Swinging Saxes, Clarinet Choir, and Flute Ensemble.
  • The Junior High bands perform at several evening concerts during the school year. Traditionally, the bands also march in the Brunswick Parks and Recreation Department “Halloween Parade” and the Brunswick-Topsham Memorial Day Parade. Attendance at all performances is expected. A performance calendar for the school year is available here and on the document holder outside Miss Anderson’s office door.
  • Concert attire is “concert black”: black from “neck to toes”. (See concert attire post for more information). Our Marching Band uniform is the BJH Band polo and black pants.
  • As the parent of a Junior High Band student, you are a “Music Booster”! The BJH Music Boosters provide support for the music department through several well-established fundraisers, providing chaperones, etc… We welcome your active participation in this great organization!
