Annual Halloween Parade

Following tradition, the Brunswick Jr. High Marching Band (Gr. 6, 7, & 8 Bands) will be participating in the annual Brunswick Rec. Department’s Goblin Parade on Thursday, October 31. I will be sending an information/participation form home with your band student. You may also DOWNLOAD THE FORM HERE.  It is important that all band students return a participation form for planning purposes. We also need parent volunteers for this event. We would need you after school (2:30) to help organize and line the students up (in the gym at BJH). We would need you to march with us down to the mall on Maine St. (helping the kids keep straight rows and columns and assisting if anyone has medical issues, instrument issues, etc…), supervise the kids on the mall as we are waiting for the parade to begin, march with us during the parade (down Maine St., onto Bank St., onto Federal St. to the rec center), and to assist loading the students on the busses. We are usually back at the Jr. High by 5:30. If you can help with this event, please indicate so on your child’s participation form and/or send me an email.
Your child will need a MARCHING LYRE if they don’t already have one. Lyres can be purchased at any store that sells band instrument supplies. For flute players I recommend the “flutist’s friend”style (attaches to the players arm). Trumpets and alto saxes should bring their instrument with them to be sure the lyre will fit. (depending on the style you purchase, they are not necessarily “universal”).
I encourage the students to wear a costume for the parade. There are details on the “information section” of the participation form and I will talk with them about my expectations. Please help them make an appropriate costume choose. Students NOT wishing to “dress up” should wear a white or red top appropriate to the weather conditions. 🙂
