Cheddar Biscuits

2 cups flourbiscuits
1 Tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sharp orange shredded cheddar cheese
¾ cup milk

1 Tablespoon of melted butter
½ tsp. garlic powder
1/8 cup shredded cheddar

  1. Preheat Oven to 425°
  2. Measure flour, baking powder and salt into bowl.
  3. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender.
  4. Stir in the cheese (reserve 1/8 of a cup to sprinkle on the tops) and the milk.
  5. Round up the dough and knead lightly 8 times on a floured pastry cloth.
  6. Roll with floured rolling pin until ½” thick.
  7. Cut with a floured biscuit cutter and place on ungreased baking sheet.
  8. Combine melted butter and ½ teaspoon garlic powder.
  9. Brush tops with garlic butter and sprinkle lightly with the rest of the cheddar cheese.
  10. Bake 10- 12 minutes or until golden brown.

 

Makes about 8 large or 20 mini biscuits.
