Region 10 Technical High School and Union School

For ages 0-3 you may be eligible for Early Head Start, for ages 3-5 you may be eligible for Head Start. More information about Head Start can be found at Midcoast Community Action or by calling (800) 221-2221 or (207) 442-7963.

Q: What if my child does not have a birth certificate?
A: A birth certificate is one form of documentation to prove age. It is NOT required. Other documents are acceptable. “All ELs must be allowed to attend school, regardless of their ability to produce a birth certificate, social security number, or immigration documentation.” (p. 9 Serving Maine’s English Learners Policy and Resource Guide, Maine DOE).

Q: What other documents does my child need?
A: Proof of residency and Immunization Records

Q: Who can tell me more information about immunization and health services?
A: The school nurse can provide more information and assistance.

Q: What resources do the schools have for mental or emotional health concerns?

Q: What if I do not have a residence?
A: Children who are homeless have special rights which are guaranteed by a federal law called the McKinney-Vento Act. For more information, contact Shawn Lambert, Assistant Superintendent, McKinney Vento [homeless students] Liaison, Title 1, 2 and 4 Coordinator – slambert@brunswick.k12.me.us 

Q: What if I do not speak English? What if my children do not speak English?
A: Children who do not speak English or are not proficient in English may register for age-appropriate grades. Parents who do not speak English may request an interpreter from the school. Children have the right to English language instruction in addition to school content curriculum under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. Q: What if my child wants to play sports?
A: School sports teams can be joined at the Junior High and High School.
