Welcome to the Community for Coffin!
Coffin Office Notes: Excuse, Dismisal, Tardy Note – For Parents to download
Community for Coffin (CFC) is the “PTA” or parent-teacher-community group at Coffin School. Our mission is to support and enhance the educational opportunities at our school, while fostering a sense of community for our students and families. We do this by holding teacher appreciation events, volunteering at the school, and raising funds to sponsor learning enrichment programs for the students.
You can participate in CFC in a number of ways, with as little or as much time as you can offer. To keep updated on upcoming events, activities and opportunities to help, join our mailing list by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or join us on Facebook at “Community for Coffin (CFC)”. You can also visit the CFC bulletin board in the school lobby or attend our monthly meetings.
Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities
Please email email@example.com if interested.
Monthly Walk/Bike To School Day — Our PE teachers and 5210 Coordinator are
excited to make Bike or Walk To School Day a monthly event this year, on the
third Friday of every month (weather permitting). All students are encouraged to walk/bike/scooter to school. Children taking the bus will be dropped off on Columbia Avenue and walk the rest of the way to school. We need volunteers to make these mornings safe and successful, and would especially like to find people who can commit to volunteering every month.
Helping Hands – A group that helps the teachers at Coffin School on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00am to 11:00am by cutting, laminating, sorting, pasting, etc. Can’t help out during these times? Projects can be sent home to do at night and on the weekends. Our teachers depend on this group and the back-to-school requests are piling up!
Cafeteria Duty – Be a smiling face and a helping hand during lunchtime. Help the children open milk, containers, etc. and get them settled so that they can eat their lunch. Zip and button coats before they go out for recess.
Snack Shack – The Snack Shack was a huge hit last year, offering healthy and affordable snacks every morning before school! Snack Shack will start on October 1 and run daily throughout the year. A table is set up in the front of the gym where parent volunteers sell healthy snacks such as fruit, veggies, yogurts, cheese sticks, cereal bars, etc. for $0.25 each. The students purchase a snack between 8:30 and 8:55 to eat for their morning snack that day. Volunteers are needed for the following: 1. twice a week to purchase the fruit and veggies and chop and organize them into snack sized bags; 2. monthly to purchase the carbs, cheese and yogurts; and 3. daily to sell the healthy snacks.
Library Volunteers – Check books in and out, help children find books, re-shelf books which have been returned, read to children, or work on other library projects. The library especially needs volunteers from 9:10am to 10:40am. If you are interested, please email Ruth Wilson at RWilson2@brunswick.k12.me.us.
Box Tops for Education & Labels for Education – These fundraising efforts involve the Coffin community clipping coupons which are submitted for cash and free educational merchandise. Volunteers are needed to help sort and trim coupons, check expiration dates, and count. Watch for an email and a Facebook post every few weeks and come join a fun “Sip & Snip” event (Did you think it would be all work?) while helping raise money for Coffin!
Coffin Garden Committee (CGC) – Maintain indoor/outdoor garden and vegetable beds. Develop school initiatives such as a composting program and “garden to lunch table” program.
