Digital Citizenship

Students at BJHS do not have school email addresses, nor do they have access to chat rooms, other social media sites, and phones are not used during school time. Consequences are in place for those who abuse these school rules. As a result, these have not presented in school issues related to digital citizenship and ethical use.

• Information-Technology Skills Site (http://www.brunswick.k12.me.us/mediateam/ ) See Electronic Searching. Many references to ethics, etc. Intended as a self teaching site and a site for students and teachers to learn information-technology and research skills.

• District Technology Benchmarks (teachers integrate/teach these skills with curricula). 
• Technology Proficiency Test:  All 8th graders take the Technology Proficiency Test which includes an area for responsible and ethical use of technology. Study guide for test (PDF).
• Parent and student presentations by Mr. Cross.  Each fall students review rules and expectations when receiving laptops.  Parents/Guardians receive information during the laptop take home presentation meeting, each new year.

• Common Sense Media offers discussions, videos, etc. on digital citizenship. Most teachers are familiar with this site. https://www.commonsense.org/
