Science

GOAL
The goal of the science program at Brunswick Jr. High School is to provide students with the knowledge and tools necessary to access, understand, and evaluate information.  Students will use scientific inquiry skills (i.e., engagement, exploration, explanation, elaboration and evaluation) in the practice of science in the natural and material world.  They will use, effectively, the interconnection between science, technology, engineering, and all other disciplines.  As active participants, students will develop the curiosity and excitement necessary for life-long learning and to be scientifically literate citizens.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Brunswick Junior High School science curriculum is based on educational research that promotes a three-pronged approach to teaching science, combining practices, disciplinary core ideas, and cross-cutting concepts.  This approach to teaching middle level science is recommended by The National Research Council’s Science Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards.  We also work on student preparation for standardized tests each year.

Technology has become increasingly important to our department with the introduction of the MLTI program and other technologies.  We work to integrate technology successfully and take advantage of any new technology for learning which is appropriate to our science program and will further prepare students for the workforce.  By integrating our science program to meet state and national standards, we will continue to make sure our students understand science as it affects their lives and help them become technologically literate citizens.
