Today is Tuesday, February 11th, and it’s an BLACK Day.


BHS Graduate and current Senior Correspondent for the Washington Post Kevin Sullivan will be speaking at Bowdoin College today, February 11th at 4:30 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium, Visual Arts Center. The talk, entitled “The View from Washington”, is Free and open to the public. Come learn about Kevin’s path from BHS to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist!

Brunswick High School is a stop on Maine Author Maria Padian‘s book tour for her newest novel How to Build a Heart, and the BHS Library is hosting a book launch party! The event takes place this Friday  during period 3/4 from 9:45 to 10:45. Maria Padian will talk about the writing process, read from her new book and answer student questions. How to Build a Heart features a teen girl who is hiding her background from others. Kirkus Reviews gave it a starred review calling it “an absolutely enthralling depiction of family and self-discovery.” Stop by the Library for a ticket to the Book Launch Party this Friday for your teacher to approve and sign!

The BHS Music Department needs your help to win the CLYNK challenge! Collect bottles/cans in a BHS music CLYNK bag and return to any Hannaford by March 20. We earn an extra 50% and hope to win the $1500 prize for top in the state this year, after placing 2nd last year. Get your BHS Music CLYNK Bags in the music room or at The Music Center. Thanks for your support!

Students: create an awareness poster for organ and tissue donation and enter the 5th annual Donate Life Maine High School Poster Contest!  Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Posters can be mailed to: Maine Transplant Program, 19 West Street, Portland, Maine 04102 and graphic design entries can be emailed to All entries must be recieved my March 6th.

Attention Seniors and Parents & Guardians: If you haven’t paid the $35 Cap & Gown fee, it is due to Ms. Wight in the Counseling Office by the end of February – Please get it in early!


There will be a brief meeting during Flex time on Thursday at 9:30-9:40 am in Mr. Hutchinson’s room (231) to finalize this year’s BHS Envirothon teams.  Current review materials will also be handed out to allow teams plenty of time to prepare for competition in the spring.  If any students cannot make the meeting please stop by and see Hutch any day this week!

There will be an important Science Bowl team meeting in Mr Goldstone’s room 115 Thursday during FLEX.  all members are expected to attend!

Is there someone you love? Or someone you’d like to show your appreciation for? During the week of Valentine’s Day, the Class of 2022 will be selling flowers and chocolate hearts in the Cafeteria during A and C lunches on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Carnations are $2 roses are $3, and chocolate hearts are $1. Deliveries will be made during Flex on the 13th!

ATTENTION SENIORS, Please submit your candid theme photos to the BHS yearbook! The current theme is SENIOR GRAD PLANS (COLLEGE SPIRIT, CAREER SPIRIT, MILITARY SPIRIT, ETC.) Photos are due by February 24th.

Students working on an Altered Couture project should continue planning designs during flex in Room 135 on Mondays and Thursdays.

Join the BHS Broadcasting Club! Come on down to the BHS Studio in the morning and join The First Five! There are many different positions and roles you can learn such as anchoring, directing, writing and content creation! 

Do you not have a computer at home but need to write a paper, complete an assignment, do research, fill out a job application, or apply to college? The BHS Library now has Chromebooks available for students to check out overnight. Don’t have WiFi at home?  No worries! The Library also has a portable hotspot to connect to the internet that you may check out with the Chromebook. Stop by the Library for more information or to pick up a Chromebook permission slip to have signed at home.

Attention students: do you belong to a club or organization that does some interesting things?  Grab your cell phone cameras and help provide photos of your club group for the bhs yearbook. Simply shoot photos and email them to before February break.

The Class of 2023 continues to sell the Classic Brunswick Sweatshirt! These high quality collegiate style crew sweatshirts are available in 3 colors: black, charcoal, and light gray. We have sweatshirts in-stock in most colors and sizes. The sweatshirts cost $25 and make checks payable to “BHS Class of 2023″. Email Ms. Groves at BHS with your requests.Order forms are also available on the BHS website. Thank you for your support! 

The next Freshman Class meeting will be held Thursday, February 27th during Flex. 

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the next fundraiser (selling joggers) and class spirit. Please go to your Flex for attendance and sit with your Flex group in Crocker theater

“Big B” sweatshirts are being sold by the Class of 2021! They’re in stock and are available for $20 at lunches. They are also being sold during Flex in Ms. Campbell’s room, Room 218. Thank you for supporting the Class of 2021!
