Today is Thursday, October 4th, and it’s an ORANGE Day.
There is a special event happening in Crooker Theater today: MountainFilm of Telluride, Colorado, will be presenting a free film screening during period 3/4. This event is open to all classes and is made possible by Frontier Cafe, which is a stop on MountainFilm’s worldwide tour. This presentation of short films is being promoted by BHS students participating in an Extended Learning Opportunity in Film and Media Studies. For those who are attending – Please be seated in Crooker by 9:55 in the middle section. There will be opening remarks and introductions and then inspirational short films until 11:00. Mountainfilm’s mission is to use “the power of film, art and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world.”
A reminder to all 11th grade students: The PSAT will be given on Wednesday, October 10th, beginning Period 1/2 and ending at approximately 11:10. Make sure you come prepared with sharpened #2 pencils and an approved calculator. Cell phones are not allowed during testing. Students will report to testing rooms at 7:40. Late Arrival will not be in effect on October 10th for 11th grade students. Juniors who attend a morning Region #10 program will be excused from attendance on Wednesday. Afternoon Region #10 students will have lunch after testing and late bus transportation is provided.
PSAT testing will take place on the second floor of the high school and room lists are posted outside classroom doors. Juniors: You will test in the Social Studies and English wings. Check ahead of time to find the correct location. If you have questions, ask a teacher or check with the Counseling Office, the Main Office or the Library. To all other grades, classes will continue as usual. Students who attend classes in Rooms 201 to 222: Check outside the classroom doors or with your classroom teachers for room changes.
A reminder to seniors: Start getting your alternate senior portraits turned in via email or to the Yearbook box in the Main Office. The file size should be 1.2 megabytes, or 1200 x1800 pixels, and should be labeled with your last name then first name. Photos may be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
School pictures have been rescheduled for Friday, October 12th, and Tuesday, October 16th. Pictures will be taken on the stage in Crooker Theater. Everyone should have their photo taken. ID cards will be issued from these pictures. Union School students or make-up students may drop in throughout the two days around scheduled English classes.

Congratulations to the BHS Mathletes for their win yesterday! The BHS Math Team topped Mt. Ararat, Freeport, NYA, Yarmouth, Greely and Morse in a seven-way meet! Top scorers were Micah Pietraho, Leo Douhovnikoff and Daniel Lyons. Way to go Dragons!

Are you interested in Girls Who Code? Please stop by Mrs. Dolan’s room, Room 102, to pick up a pass to participate during Flex on Thursdays!
PRIDE will also be meeting occasionally during Flex, including today. If you would like to come to the PRIDE meeting during Flex today, it’s in the clay room across from Room 118. All are welcome.
Freshmen class officers should plan to meet with Mrs. Driscoll today at Flex.
Outing Club members: There is a meeting today during Flex in Mr. McCullough’s room to prep for the trip to Mount Megunticook in Camden on the 14th. The hike gives spectacular views of some of Maine’s best Fall foliage. Please see Mr. McCullough or Mr. Stocker for passes or questions.
There will be a short Science Fair meeting today during FLEX in Mrs. Dumont’s room, Room 223. This is for anyone interested in participating or just wanting more information! All are welcome to get involved – it does not require any experience, only an inquiring mind!
RunBrunswick is seeking Student Board Members! RunBrunswick is a community nonprofit raising money to help renovate the Track and Field facility at BHS. We are looking for interested Brunswick High School students to join a student subcommittee of our board of directors. Primary responsibilities will be contributing content to social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram & Twitter), contributing to monthly meetings of our board of directors, and bringing your creative energy and knowledge of BHS Track and Field to our fundraising effort. The Dragon Boutique is now open! What’s the Dragon Boutique? It’s a free clothing exchange for all students and staff! Donate clothes you no longer want or feel free to stop by and take clothes you’d like! The Dragon Boutique is located in Mrs. Burnette’s room, Room 112, and is open before school, during Snack Break, and during lunches. Come check it out!

In golf news, BHS held its first annual Faculty/Golf Team scramble yesterday. The team finishing in 2nd place ended 3 under par, led by Rita Maines, with David Bright, Sam Sharpe, and Jack Tishkevich. First place honors, with a score of 4 under par, had Emma Parke, Kam Harrison, Mike Routhier, and coach David Boucher. Congratulations!
Boys Varsity Soccer: The boy’s varsity soccer team extended its winning streak to 3 yesterday by thrashing Lincoln Academy 6-1. The team needed a win and the captains said hop on my back lads, we got this. Senior Captain Emmet Taub sliced through the Eagles; giving them fits with precision passing to keep them on their heels. Kian Murray anchored a defense that consistently turned away Lincoln’s speedy attacks. Kian also scored on an absolute laser of a goal on a direct kick from 25 yards out. But the star that burned brightest belonged to “Man of the Match” captain Everett Horch. Everett scored 4 goals to lead an attack that could not be stopped. Come see the team take on Edward Little Friday night on the stadium field at 6 p.m.
Boys JV Soccer: Yesterday, the boys JV soccer team also traveled to Lincoln Academy turf and came away with an 8-0 win. By half-time, Zeke Spiro had 3 goals and 2 assists. As the game progressed, Josh “Diesel” Poulin had a fantastic finish off Zeke’s corner, and Luke Flanagan had a bottom-corner finish off a cross by Isaac Albaugh. Conlan Storer had 2 excellent goals off break-away runs, and Liam Hemberger topped it off by dribbling the keeper to score another. Excellent games were played by Luke Flanagan, Griffin Bannon, and James Kousky, who now has another Snapchat.
Girls Varsity Soccer: The Girls Varsity Soccer team had a thrilling game on Senior Night on the stadium field! The Girls Varsity team won its game against Lincoln Academy 8-1! Goals were scored by Isabella Banks (with 4), Charlotte MacMillan (with 2), Marley Groat and Alexis Guptil with assists from Emma Banks and Emily Larochelle. Beth Labbe was outstanding in goal with 10 saves!
Girls JV Soccer: The Brunswick girls JV soccer team had a stupendous win over the Lincoln academy Eagles yesterday. They played a dominating game with a final triumphant score of 4-1. Goals were scored by Mia Desantis, captain Elena Palmer, Captain Taylor Cunningham and Alex Bunker. The brick wall defense was glued together by Riley Turgeon, Riley McCallaster, and Carey Arnold with an outstanding header.
Girls Varsity Field Hockey: Brunswick won its game against Lincoln Academy 8-0. In the 1st half, Brunswick goals were scored by #5 Sara Scrapchansky assisted by # 12 Shea Sullivan, #12 Shea Sullivan assisted by #17 Kelsey Sullivan, and by #32 Lauren Jacobs.
2nd half goals were scored by #24 Gia Guernelli assisted by # 15 Maddie Wayne, #28 Eliza Rudalevige, #24 Gia Guernelli, #15 Maddie Wayne assisted by #5 Sara Scrapchansky, #23 Rosie White Assisted by #5 Sara Scrapchansky, and #9 Maggie Folsom assisted by #23 Rosie White. Brunswick goalie Ainsley Harrower had a shut out with 6 saves. The Dragons take on Camden Hills tomorrow at Camden Hills at 3:30. Be sure to come out to the Senior Game next Tuesday, October 9th, under the lights at Bowdoin in the Green Bridge Rival vs Mt. Ararat. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. Wear your black and orange to support your Dragons Field Hockey team!
Girls JV Field Hockey: The Brunswick JV Field Hockey team hosted Lincoln Academy yesterday in a 7 on 7 matchup and won with a final score of 4-0. The Dragons dominated the game keeping the ball in their offensive 50 a majority of the time and having 9 shots on goal. Kelsey Sullivan got Brunswick on the score board by a pass from Delia Braillard. Then Julia Pols scored two goals on post from great passes from Braillard and Anna Barnes. Brunswick came out strong after the half, Brianna Campbell scored on an assist from Julia Pols. It was mostly a Brunswick offensive game, and the forwards and mids worked well together. The defense stayed on their toes and kept the ball out of the defensive 25. Liberty Krauss was in goal and never touched the ball. Brunswick travels to Camden Hills on Thursday, October 5th. The team’s record is now 5-5-1.
Girls Volleyball: Brunswick/MTA will be in action at home tonight night against Gardiner. JV plays at 5:00 and Varsity at 6:30. Come out and cheer on the Dragons!
